Pinch Harmonics

Its a amazing sounding guitar technique that is useful for many styles of playing.

Pinch harmonics are also called artificial harmonics. Its a simple skill that basically consists of picking the string, then barely tapping it with your thumb. First, you hold your pick with just a little bit of the bottom showing, about 3mm. Now, pick and barely tap the string with your thumb. It helps sometimes to sort of act like your pushing through the string, instead of just picking as normal. That may sound a little odd, but once you try it, you’ll know what I mean. I definitely think that this is a much easier skill to master if you are using humbuckers. Single coil pickups just don’t offer that same sound, and it is much more difficult to perform one with the same tone. This is honestly nothing against some manufacturers, but Fender rarely uses humbuckers in their guitar design. I say Fender because they are the pioneers of the straticaster, and have been copied many many times over the years. So, in conclusion, pinch harmonics are fairly easy to do, just initimidating. So keep on rocking!!!
