Vox Amplug Metal Review

Vox’s new boys toy, the AmPlug Portable Amp range, I bought the metal edition, and thought i’d try it out.

First off I was a bit skeptical about these, as I heard they were manufactured in japan, and I had used some cheap Japanese headphone amps before, and they were terrible.

RRP at £55 I thought was a tad bit too much for something so small, but on eBay they’re plenty for around £35. It made sense as i trusted Vox and i didn’t want to spend £35 on a big cheap amp.
Sure enough, 2 days later, it came, and wow, was i surprised! All you have to do is plug in 2 AAA batteries and some headphones, and you’re off!
So i hooked it up to my 1981 Gibson Explorer copy with some Seinhesser HD-250 on-ear headphones, and the sound quality was fantastic! it does what is says on the tin; METAL! A beautiful crisp, Bass tone which is excellent for playing heavy metal. While its lackluster in features, you don’t really need anything else to play metal. Battery life is brilliant, and so is portability, and its great for holiday and camping.

Unluckily for me i broke my mine as i Lent on it whilst on my guitar and snapped the jack clean off. These little things are pretty strong and i really recommend them, it only broke because i was fooling around. But sure enough, some solder and a hose clip and its good as new!

I’m looking forward to the rest of the range! (AC30 next!)
