MF: Tell us a bit about who you are, where you come from, so those unfamiliar have an understanding.
 

Tygastyle: My name is Tygastyle from the group Masstapeace. Was born in Lowell, MA in 1985, grew up in Chelmsford and have been back in Lowell for a while now. I am married with 3 kids, work a full time job, and yes…. I am a rapper.
 
MF: How was the transition to writing music? Did you initially freestyle or where you a battle rapper?
 

Tygastyle: Well I never really was a battle rapper. Growing up when we were free styling at house parties and shit, we would kind of battle each other, or just spit aggressive rhymes but I have never entered a battle. However, my man Legendary Axe, the other emcee of Masstapeace, used to be a battle king. He ran the battle circuit back in 2000-2001. If you look on YouTube, I’m sure you can see some pretty epic Axe battles.

MF: Let us know who is in your group and which elements do each of you bring to the table?
 

Tygastyle: We have four members in our crew. Legendary Axe and I are the lyricists, my man DJ Slipwax holds us down on the wheels and The Man in the Mask is our mascot/hype man.  Axe and I write all the lyrics and choruses. DJ Slipwax scratches on our songs, creates beats and runs our whole set when we perform live shows. The Man in the Mask gets the crowd hyped up. MF: What inspired you to start making music?
 

Tygastyle: I have always been a fan of music and I think that being such a fan of music lead me to start creating my own. Another reason I write music is for expression, I have been through so much crazy shit in my life that I just put all those situations into words and songs and it helps me to continue to do the right thing.
