In the development of Britpop music kicked off the U.S. market, fierce competition arose between Blur and Oasis in 1995. If the initial praise each other, their competition is finally heating up earning it the nickname ‘The Battle of Britpop ".
British media panned the band’s second competition intense. On the front page issue of August 12, 1995, music magazine NME Oasis and Blur lifting competition ‘British Heavyweight Championship’ with a delayed release of the Oasis single “Roll With It” and Blur “Country House” on the same day.
Competition makes Blur frontman Damon Albarn and Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher did not get along, and mocking each other in the media. Conflict both make British music lovers split in two, Oasis represent the North of England, while Blur represented the South region.
Conflicts that heat up the public attention and mass media in national newspapers, tabloids, and even the BBC News. Blur won the battle of the bands, album sells 274,000 copies, while the Oasis with 216 000 copies. However, in the long run Oasis became more commercially successful than Blur.
Not like Blur, Oasis is able to achieve a sustainable level of sales in the United States for the single “Wonderwall”. Oasis’ second album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ (1995) eventually sold more than 4 million copies in the UK, and became the third best selling album in British history at the time.
Perseturuan length between Noel and Damon eventually lead to peace. Both were also seen hugging at the Brit Awards 2012.
Damon and Noel seen drinking together at a rented boat label EMI after the show went. In several interviews, they also praised each other mutually.
Damon said Noel as a rival who has a strong charisma. While Noel imagine to do the album with Damon.
“I think it funny when Blur were here last time, about 17 years ago when we were enemies,” said Damon on Eveing Standard, Friday (02/24/2012).
Both partied together and performing in the award. Blur won the Outstanding Contribution category, while Noel is nominated for Best Male Solo Artist category is not able to bring home the trophy.
