Review of the bass amplifier Ampeg SVT-4Pro. Is it worth the hefty price tag?
In uncertain economic times, many musicians may want to try and cut corners with spending on musical instruments. If you are one of those people, the Ampeg Pro Series SVT-4Pro is not for you. However, if you are a serious bass player, and are looking for possibly the best amplifier ever made, the SVT-4Pro may be for you.
The visual appearance of the amplifier is great, it has a classic look and is completely black. The amplifier features five different tone controls, a 9 band equalizer, and a hybrid of solid state and tube preamp. The amp also features 490-Watts x 2/1200 at 4 ohms. The thing that surprised me most about the ampeg amp is that it is the solid state sounds just as good as the tube. I have been wary of solid state amps in the past but there is no concern with the SVT-4Pro. The baby sounds amazing coming from my passive bass guitar and also my active bass guitar. As no surprise, the volume on the amp head is loud enough for any needs but the quality of the sound does not change the louder the amp goes. On cheaper amps this can be a problem but not with this amp.
I tried using this head in my private studio for recording a couple of songs and the tone translates very well. The bass sounded excellent on my final recording and it did not need much tweaking. If you have used your bass guitar straight into the mixing board and not through an amp, trying the SVT-4Pro is a must for you.
The ampeg SVT-4Pro has a hefty price tag, but it is well worth the money. This is by far the best sounding amp I have ever used. The tone can not be beat and if you are a serious musician, the SVT-4pro is highly recommended.
