It has never been the easiest thing to attract a strong and regular fan base when you are a band or industry pro, so why not give your self a step up! Check out these music marketing tips to help keep your fan base growing and coming back for more!
Todays music marketing tips are going to surround myspace profiles. There are two very important reasons for this:
1. Just about everyone you ever wanted to contact, including possible new fans and old fans, are on the internet. About 75% of them are also on myspace at least a few times a day.
2. Myspace offers music professionals the opportunity to showcase their music, and show off a little.
So! with this knowledge in mind, lets go over some marketing tips to help keep everyone interested in your profile!
Seriously, I spend at least 5 hours a day reviewing myspace pages for new potential bands, and it really sucks when you go to a page that has nothing original on it. Its the default white backround or 1 color backround with nothing on it. No gig calendar filled out and usually only one picture and one song.
If thats all your going to do, don’t bother. Myspace offers a wide variety of free profile layouts and backrounds and there are event sites that let you design your own. The creator of myspace probably cries themself to sleep at night when they see someone not using the full potential of myspace.
Go to google or another search engine and type in “Free Myspace Layouts”, or “Cool Myspace Profile Backrounds”. There are also specific theme sites, and you could type in “Hot Rod Profile Backrounds”, or “New Guitar Backrounds” or “Sexy Myspace Layouts”. You could even change your layout seasonally!
Just make sure that what ever you pick stands out and represents your band. Get something attractive and easy to look at, that showcases your band. Its truly worth taking the time!
There are plenty of non computer literate persons out there who have a hard time getting backrounds on and off their profile, but that is not what it looks like from an outsider! It just looks lazy. Myspace and other sites have made it so easy to get a background, that I hate to quote it, but “Even a Cave Man could do it!”
Seriously! When a fan or potential client is surfing your profile, they want to learn as much about you as they can. Blogs, are one of the best ways to give your profile that personal touch. The main page is superficial and just there for a viewing and listening of music.
Now, Blogging is not so complicated and scary as everyone feels it is. Its just a shorting of the words “Web Log”, and its there to give random bits of information, and to give the world a little insight to you. When you use your blog, you can talk about hazards of the job, good news, gossip, stories about yourself, venue info, booking info and many other things. It is so useful to use blogs, and if your smart and proactive, you can answer just about any question a person would ask, and would only ever have to direct them to the blog. You’d never have to answer those annoying questions again!

Great tips! I’ll be sure to try them out, I’ve been doing the myspace thing for a few months now but I feel like my music is going nowhere.
I think I’m targeting the wrong fans, my music is pretty unique and I’m adding a bunch of teens that like scene music and stuff. I just don’t know what kind of people to target.
Anyway thanks!!
