Miscreant Music Entertainment: The Musical Variety That Brings Us Back for More

I recently had the pleasure to call into the NW Something Show and do an on-air interview with DJ Correct of Miscreant Music Entertainment. It’s always a great time talking with Correct (also known as The Guardian) not only because he happens to be my brother, but also because he always has cool musical projects going on and something fresh and interesting to listen to.

DJ Correct wanted to know a bit about my current writing projects, and the prospect of me coming out with a book by the end of the year.  I tooted my own horn just a little, nervously mis-spelling my own name and forgetting what my user-name on MySpace is (it’s writersblokagain if you want to look me up).  We discussed future projects that I am working on, how www.triond.com works for authors to get work out to the masses, some of my experiments in getting reads without doing any promotion vs. passing links along to my family and other random bits of my experiences in becoming a newly published author.

What was more interesting for me though was getting a chance to ask him questions about his newest projects.  In addition to Miscreant Music Entertainment’s recent launch of the NW Something Show podcast (http://www.miscreantonline.com/nwsomethingshow.html) which is a forum for Portland area artists to share thoughts and music with listeners, Correct is also gearing up to launch not one – but two EP’s in May. 

Planet Guardianis set to release May 23rd and promises to be an amazing grouping of new beats, raps and rhythms to get your toes tapping and head bobbing.  While I know many in the hip-hop circles are wary of “white boy” rappers and cringe at the thoughts of Vanilla-esc nasally ditties, I have had the pleasure of listening to bits and pieces of the music on this album in its various states of production and can honestly tell you that it is going to be a collection worth listening to.  The Guardian / DJ Correct uses beats, blends and samples that create a sound that has been called “New School Rap” by those in Portland’s underground music circles, and his sound is eagerly sought after by those who are lucky enough to have heard it. 

As somewhat of a spin-off, Special Blend Vol. 1 will also be released May 23rd.  In my interview with DJ Correct I learned that this album is a compilation of beats that were composed during the making of Planet Guardian but just weren’t a great fit for that album. 

Correct says, “As I’ve been working on the EP I’ve been going through a lot of beats; and I’ll make new beats and decide that I don’t think they sound right for a certain song that I’ve been working on.”  Correct came up with the idea that he would produce an album of these unused beats that other artists can use to create their own music.  The artists will send the new versions back to Correct, and he plans on releasing a third album to show off and celebrate the results.

Full-length versions of previously released music by Miscreant Music Entertainment’s artists DJ Correct, The Guardian and Dub Kill are available for your listening pleasure on their Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/miscreantmusic503) and I suggest you check them out.  Even if hip-hop isn’t normally your thing, you will be pleasantly surprised with their variety and depth of content.  Be sure to bookmark them and check back with them often as Correct updates their content frequently.
