Are you a good musician? Are your friends good musicians? Are you dreaming of having the opportunity to shine like the Foo Fighters, The Beatles, and Green Day? It’s not easy, but you always have the chance if you have a good talent for music.

Step #1

Choose people that have a good skill on playing the instrument they are going to use; but more important than that, they should be your closest friends, having a band is boring and even a horrible experience if you choose people you don’t like. After that assign a responsible leader of the band, this don’t need to be the vocalist only, many bands have as their leader the drummer or bassist

Step #2

Make with your friends your band practice room, such a garage or an empty room the more bigly the room is, the better will be the quality of the music and you will be more comfortable. It will be easier for you and for the people who lives near there like your family or neighbors if you could cover the walls with soft material like foam to absorb the noise and to have a better sound quality.

Step #3

Choose a good name for the band, this is important because it is the name that will identify you as a group and changing it later will be a terrible headache. Everyone will recognize you by your band’s name.

Step #4

Assign everyone their instrument, and something to compensate the low volume of some of them such as bigger amplifiers for bass and medium-size for guitars and piano, a good microphone for the vocalist. You should start mixing the volumes of the amplifiers in order to match a perfect harmony between the instruments. For obvious reasons the drums doesn’t need and amplifier.

Step #5

Start practicing hard, especially making simple covers of easy songs of well-known artists. You can be helped by using their instruments tabs and pentagrams. Be patient, check mistakes, harmonize your rhythms and instruments, but more important than that: have fun.

Step #6

One you feel enough confident with your band’s skill, you can start writing your own songs, starting by creating a good piano or guitar melody,  then adding bass and drums. If the writer sings and plays his instrument, things will be easier, but it will take time, the 1st song will not be such as good as you expected but don’t let it disappoint you. I would recommend for a beginner song-writer to write its piece of art in a calm place to let him concentrate and be inspired.

Step #7

Once the song is finished let the writer give the idea to the group if everyone is ok, you can start playing it. You should be practicing with that song for a good while until you feel sure you domain it, then start creating more songs.

Step #8

When you are sure one or more of your songs really rocks, you should start participating on school events, talent shows, and local events, to see what people thinks about your music. This is a good way to lose the shyness and to be more confident with your work.

Step #9

If lot of people likes your music and start receiving good comments about you, I would recommend thinking about recording a demo in a record studio (which is not very expensive). A demo is a way for musicians to approximate their ideas on tape or disc, and provide an example of those ideas to record labels, producers or other artists. Musicians often use demos as quick sketches to share with bandmates or arrangers; in other cases a songwriter might make a demo to send to artists in hopes of having the song professionally recorded, or a music publisher may need a simple recording for publishing or copyright purposes.

Step #10

Once your demo is ready, you should make people around you to listen it for free and ask them for what they think if they like your style and the music, also you can try posting your songs, in popular music websites, and download centers. Once you think people are very interested in your art, return to the recording studio, and create an album.

With some effort and luck, your music will be well-received, and people around you and even more than that will recognize but also love your music.
