Helpful Tips on Writing Music

I will help you through this article learn to write your own music that could maybe someday make you the next Johnny Cash.

I always start out with writing the music (guitar chords usually for me). This way I have a melody and rhythm I can hear. This also lets you find the base of your work so that you have a firm ground to stand on when making serious personal touches to your masterpiece.

Next I write the lyrics. These don’t have to be personal. Looking at a lot of popular songs out there, a lot of them never really are personal. It’s not bad to write something personal either though. I personally will write both serious and non-serious lyrics. Quick Tip-make sure the lyrics are original and stand out! I think everyone by now is tired of the cliche phrases like last night.

Finally, I add my own personal touches. Usually I add in some more singing harmonies and expand on my guitar ideas to something more than just chords. Quick Tip-You can always add in some notes from the chords you are using! They will almost always sound good mixed in with your chords.

Now this may not help some of you due to the fact that these are my personal ideas. I do hope at least though that I have given somebody some ideas on songwriting.

Thanks For Reading

This is helpful for getting started! I personally find it easier to start with a melody and then fit a chord progression to it, but I always find it fascinating how other people come up with songs.
