Written and performed by Crystal McNeil in early 2008. I own the copyright and it has never been published.
Far away under city lights
A neon sign that shines more than bright
Take this drink and you’ll be together
Take these pills and stay young forever
No one told us we were out of place
When we injected youth back into our face
Catch this reflection, remember the past
And pray this unnatural age will last
Into a dream we follow on a whim
Led by the offspring of chronic sin
Those who tell us that we’ll be alright
Even in the face of death tonight
Turn your back and bow your head
Drop to your knees and believe instead
In half the truth and one whole lie
As the world turns over on its side
Place the chips into the arms of babes
And the children’s minds into classroom graves
Pull the wool over all our eyes
And take control with electronic spies
Stand back when the beans are spilled
Witness to your words will get you killed
Catch the reaction, take in all you hear
And take every friend when you run in fear
Beneath the earth at the cellar door
Never had to stay down here before
But all seemed right when we stepped outside
Until we found out why we had to hide
Why can’t I fly away?
And forget about how we are all betrayed
By half the truth and one whole lie
As the world turns over on its side
