By simply changing a few basic GarageBand settings, you, too, can Auto-Tune like the Pros do.
For all of you amateur musicians out there, you may be interested to learn that GarageBand has a hidden feature: Auto-Tune. That’s right, by using an application as basic as GarageBand, you, too, can distort your voice and add effects that will even rival T-Pain. The great thing is that this feature does not need to be purchased separately or downloaded as supplemental material. All you need to do is change a few basic settings. So let’s start.
Begin by opening GarageBand and creating a new song. Once GarageBand is open, add an additional track (using the plus icon in the bottom left corner) and designating it as a “real instrument track.” It will most likely be set to “software instrument track” as a default. Next, while the new track is selected, open the track editor by selecting the scissor icon also found in the bottom-left corner. All you need to do now is just adjust the “enhance tuning” settings all the way to the highest level. While it’s not necessary, in many cases it also helps to select the “limit to key” box.
Now, anything you record on this track will be distorted to sound like T-Pain. Additionally, you can adjust the effects even more if you open the “Details” window at the bottom of the screen under the “track info” sidebar. From here you can adjust echo, reverb, and many other vocal qualities that will help you create your masterpiece. The great thing about GarageBand is that with these effects you can alter the characteristics of your music in so many ways.
With this basic information, you can now Auto-Tune like the pros do. So all you have to do now is sing and GarageBand will do the rest. Good luck.
