Music R & B
     Rhythm and blues, which is most often referred to as R & B, consisting of a variety of different but related styles. These titles often incluDe styles such as jump blues, club blues, black rock and roll, doom wop, soul, Motown, funk, disco, and rap. Rhythm and blues term was originally coined in 1949 by Jerry Waxier.

     Throughout the 20th century, R & B has been the biggest influence on popular music worldwide. Such influence can be seen even in the form of rock, country and western, gospel, and jazz. Despite the fact that there are many styles, there are common elements of music and social that connects them. The music is clearly the most important element and distinguish.

     All R & B genre usually depends on the size of a four-beat and back beat (the accentuation of beats two and four). However, this time a special approach to musical expression (the “flow”) is the main difference between one genre and another. Except for rap, do ensemble is generally divided into the rhythm and horn sections.

Origin:
     Rhythm and blues from the great social upheaval, industrial, and technology that occurred in the United States just before and during World War II. Hundreds of black Americans began moving northward into the cities as a war of high paying job opportunities become available. The new style of music was created to meet the tastes of the emerging demographic groups. Thus, the new sound rude rhythm and blues developed. In addition, changes in technology in the music lasts. Early R & B Styles:

At the same time, jump blues, up-tempo style featuring horn, began to flourish. During the l950s rhythm and blues began catering to an audience of teenagers, not an adult one. In addition, the black rock and roll developed and forever changed American culture. Many artists began grouping the basic quarter note into eighth-notes as opposed to the division of triplet or shuffle, the division of the most commonly used in the earlier rhythm and blues.

Motown and Soul Music:
     1960’s is characterized by three main styles: 1. Chicago soul (influenced by gospel music); 2. Motown sound, and 3) southern soul. Each style has its own features that make it a key and popular musicians.

Funk and Disco
      During the 1960s, changes in cultural views began to be articulated by many black Americans. These changes are quickly reflected in the rhythm and blues music in the development of funk. Funk De-emphasizes melody and harmony and rhythm to make the most important element. Disco also developed during this time and rivaled funks popularity.

Dance and Rap:
     During the 1980S and 1990s, superstars such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson created a new style by borrowing from funk and other dance styles. Rap is the most significant developments in popular music during this period. The roots of rap lie in African and African American verbal games. The first rap recording was “Rappers Delight” by Sugar hill Gang in 1979, and it became a novelty hit almost immediately. Not until 1986, however, when Run-MC re-recorded “Walk This Way” (a popular Azimuth song) that rap gained popularity among white audiences.
