Top 10 Halloween Songs for Your Party

As I drove down the street I heard faint music on the radio, I turned it up only to hear the beginning of Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party”, almost forgetting that I was driving, I wanted to get out and start jumping. I breathed a breath of fresh cool crisp air and thought to my self, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. No WAIT….not that holiday, I mean Halloween.

Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party” is just one of the many songs that remind me, and many others, of Halloween. Today however we will focus on 10 of those creepy, totally necessary at a Halloween party, songs.

Song’s like “Dead Man’s Party” and “Monster Mash” are obvious choices, just listen to the lyrics, but songs like “Hotel California” and “Black Magic Woman” can also be associated with this wickedly sweet Holiday. To me there is nothing like hearing the first few notes of The Eagles “Hotel California” and turning to a friend who can sing the entire song with you. Who wouldn’t think of this as a Halloween song, “They stab it with their steely knives but they still can’t kill the beast” or “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave”. The Doors’ “Faces are Strange” is another song a lot of people probably wouldn’t associate with this holiday, just trust me though and pop this one in.

Of course, you can always turn to trusty old TV shows for haunted inspiration. The Munsters and The Addams Family, two fabulously monstrous families whose lives revolve around everything we believe Halloween to be. Tell me you can hear either theme song and not think about monsters and ghouls.

Now I can’t mention Halloween without; a jump to the left and then a jump to the right and envisioning that red lipped sweet transvestite, yes I am talking about “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Not only did the movie become a cult classic, which is still shown today but “The Time Warp” is still one of the best known and most danced to Halloween songs.

When some people think of Halloween they have visions of zombies dancing in the streets, not just any zombie though, Michael Jackson. “Thriller” is probably the best known song on my list but you can’t just listen to this song, you have to see the music video. This song makes you want to get out of your chair and learn the dance.

“This Is Halloween”, it doesn’t get any more Halloweenie than that, visions of ghouls, bats, and mad scientist cheering on JACK the PUMPKIN KING. Love the movie; love all the songs on this soundtrack. You could pop in this whole CD or DVD during a party and I don’t think anyone would complain.
