My Son’s First Live Band Performance

My son’s group band invited for some concert here in some nice place in Bacolod popularly known as “Warehouse” where its been branded to be hangouts of teens and other some cool guys and chicks.

This is our son, Julian,14 years of age and at the prime of his youth.

Honestly we pride ourselves to have him as our son as he is the one and only one that crowns us the touch of life. At so young an age, never been into some school of music, he develops for himself a self-endorsed interest in singing. We never had expected that he could actually sing until one time when the family go out together for some mall shopping, only to find out Julian was already in some amusement gallery at Robinson’s Place here in Bacolod. There, to our surprise had seen him go up the stage and do some musical videoke or karaoke performance in front of so many people and crowd.

At first we couldn’t believe what we are seeing or hearing that it was actually him singing. He doesn’t have that voice but he could actually sing good. He may not be that good, but we noticed that he has some appeal to crowds especially to young teens/chicks that do actually admire him much watching and listening him sing and perform on stage.

The crowd just love to watch and listen him singing just as much as we do love to hear his voice. Life couldn’t be much better until later he was invited by some group of friends and he initiated in putting up his own band. Many band performers would want him to be their vocalist. Simply coz crowds love him watch singing.

Until one day, they were invited to perform in some known place here at Bacolod called “Warehouse”. It all started as a hobby with friends and groups doing some jamming.

So this is there first performance in one crowded place. I don’t think he has the potential, but as parents, certainly we are so happy for him as much as he was proud and couldn’t believe for himself that they will do actual band performance with that much crowd and audience.

I posted here there performance, but it was only taken from some cellphones, so definitely don’t expect audio and video quality would be that good.

Any way here is that video clip of their performance.

Music is a great comfort as we grow older, whether he makes it as a professional performer or not. Yes, it is hard to get good quality recordings from a cell phone–and the light levels must have been a real challenge.

    Hello Lowell,

First of all, thank you for signing up as a follower on my blog. I am honored to have people following what I do and hopefully enjoy what I can share on the web. Before I read this article about your son’s band, I watch his video first and notice that he’s not yet there as far as his voice gaining the strength that it needs to perform well. So when I read this article I had a good laugh because, you yourself was so brutally honest and didn’t pull any punches as to your son’s singing ability. If ever you are supporting his singing, it is more because you love him that much to let him enjoy what he loves to do and that’s what good parenting is all about.

However, all is not lost for him. If he really would like to pursue a career in the music field, may I suggest that he take singing lessons or vocalizations to develop his voice. He can already sing but all he needs to do now is to improve his breathing and get his power from the diaphragm. I should know this since my daughter developed her voice when she was in college by joining the glee club and the choir from her school. We didn’t take her seriously at first since she never really showed any interest in the performing arts except for dancing. She had a very good musical teacher and director in school who nurtured her students well.

Even if he does not end up being a singer in the future but in the end his experience will be something that will stay with him for the rest of his life. Good luck!
