This Boys are Back.
Celtic Thunder’s new album “Take Me Home” is another smash hit from the guys from Ireland and Scotland. There are more wonderful originals written by Phil Coulter as well as many contemporary tunes.
Since their first album, Damian McGivney’s voice has matured. He has gone from a boy soprano to a gorgeous baritone. For this reason, some of the songs that are on the original album had to be rearranged. So not only do you get two brand new songs sung by Damian but you also get the new arrangements of ” A Bird Without Wings” and
“Come by the Hills.”
Singer- songwriter Keith Harkin also amazes with two brand new songs. Even though he did not either of them, they fit him like a glove. You can almost picture a man sitting on a telephone line as he sings “Wichita Lineman.”
Ryan Kelly dazzles with his new songs. In “Midnight Well,” the audience gets transported to a world of gypsies. The song is a smooth, smoky ballad that fits his voice to a tee. While in “Every Breath You Take,” the audience can truly hear the devotion in his voice.
Paul Byrom and his beautiful tenor voice have returned. His version of “You Raise Me Up” can bring me to tears. In my opinion, he puts Josh Groban to shame with this moving rendition.
In this show, the audience gets to see a different side of Celtic Thunder’s eldest statesman, George Donaldson. In the song, “I’m Gonna Be,” we see that George does indeed know how to smile. While in “Working Man,” he gets the best four back-up singers he could possibly ask for as the remaining members join him on stage for the final verse. We also get to see another one of George’s musical skills as we listen to the new arrangement of the hit single, “Steal Away.” He plays guitar for the song.
The Celtic Thunder orchestra gets in on the action as well. There is a toe tapping rendition of “The Belfast Polka and The Pennsylvania Railroad.” This tune will make you want to get up and dance.
Overall this new show is another splendid job well done. I for one can not wait to find out what is going to happen in the future for these guys. I have a feeling they have a lot more wonderful music yet to perform.
