Field Day
Now in its fifth sell out year, Field Day, set in East Londons Victoria Park, has rapidly become one of the mainstays of the festival calendar. In 2011, Field Day can boast such names as The Horrors, Tribes, Anna Calvi, and The Coral.
The Reading Festival
The Reading Festival, held just outside London, is the longest running festival in the UK, having started as a blues and jazz festival in the early 1960s. These days, it is a fairly indie and rock orientated affair, with a cornucopia of well known rock bands across several stages. This years event has one of the best line ups around, featuring My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars, and Muse.
The Camden Crawl
For decades now, Camden has been at the heart of the UK music industry, thanks to a high concentration of venues and strong public transport links. Taking place over the May Day Bank Holiday, the Camden Crawl is now a firmly established fixture on the festival calendar, with hundreds of bands spread across several venues. The festival not only gives you a chance to see high profile acts in an intimate setting, it is also a superb opportunity to cast an eye over the next big things. You might even catch a secret show by a famous performer, which are often only announced on the day of the event.
Lovebox
This annual event started a few years ago as a primarily dance music orientated event, but in recent years it has diversified to include more indie and pop acts. This years event featured The Wombats, Groove Armada, Snoop Dogg, and 2 Many DJs, and is sure to be even better in 2012.
Guilfest
This relaxed, family orientated festival is set in Guildford, just outside of London. There are plenty of great musical performers, as you would expect, but there are many attractions for the kids such as clowns, fire shows, and bouncy castles.
