A look at the bands playing this year’s warped tour.
The 2009 Vans Warped Tour has announced it’s lineup for the the 2010 version of it’s annual tour. Once an exclusively punk music tour, it has become a far more of a cross section of ‘what’s hot’ in today’s music scene. I have two significant problems with the warped tour on an annual basis.
One, I live in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, a number of the better bands skip Wisconsin on the tour. (I suppose I could drive to California, but that seems like a bit of overkill). Not much that can be done about that. But the second problem is that I normally have absolutely no idea who half of the bands are from year to year. I know going into the show that some of them will be awful, and that some will be surprisingly good. Having seen hundreds of shows in my life, I also know that some bands are far better live, while others are complete garbage. Coheed and Cambria played a few years back. Awful studio band, but actually very good live. Pepper… a bit too fluffy on CD, but brilliant live.
But a bit of warning ahead of time would be nice. So, for the benefit of those in the same situation as I, here is a preview.
Every Time I Die
It’s loud and screamed; reminds me of old Rise Against a bit.
Andrew WK
Andrew WK is like a wonderful 80’s party rock reject. Catchy hooks, and all cheese.
Reel Big Fish
If you’re going to see the Warped tour, you’re probably familiar with them. Ska with a sense of humor.
You Me At Six
Screamo at it’s worst. A discount version of 30 seconds to Mars.
Never Shout Never
Awful. A whiny little douche with Dave Matthews aspirations.
All American Rejects
A great band… if you’re a 12 year old girl.
The Casualties
Absolutely a great band; I knew I’d be attending this year because the casualties are on the bill. Very reminiscent of old Dead Kennedys (the harder stuff) with shades of the Misfits. A great punk band.
Parkway Drive
Kill switch Engage type band. Lots of crunchy guitar and screaming. Not a bad band.
Motion City Soundtrack
Pop punk Ala Fallout Boy.
Pierce the Veil
More whiny screamo.
The Rocket Summer
More lame music aimed at tweeners. This one is just terrible.
Set Your Goals
Got kind of a 90’s punk feel, like a millencolin or H20.
Whitechapel
Speed metal with cookie monster growling.
Hey Monday
A girlie band. I hated it the first time I heard it when it was called Hannah Montana.
Breathe Carolina
Kind if a techno Three Oh 3! type, followed by a lot of screaming.
Bring Me The Horizon
You guessed it; more screeching growling screaming.
We the Kings
More tweenie crap. If you like All American Rejects, you’ll like this dribble.
The Cab
See We the Kings.
Haste the Day
Not bad, as far as the growling screamers go. At least worth a look live.
Dillinger Escape Plan
Again, a decent band beyond the screaming.
Of Mice and Men
I would go to see this song… and not much else.
Other bands will be added as announcements are made, so bookmark this page!
Let’s hope that the powers that be provide us with something better than this; of course, the big names have yet to be added, but so far it looks like a bunch of whiners and screamers who hate their dads and need hugs. (yawn)

Warped Tour bands so far = ?
Based on vids presented ‘Never Shout Never’ , ‘The Rocket Summer’ & ‘Set Your Goals’ are the only bands that really stood out.

The Casualties are a crap punk band. It disappoints me every day that they exist.
