Decisive Steps- Quality New Music.
It has been a month since Gail Pettis release. She is doing well and climbing the charts. Good news. She is not the only artist worth buying this year. The great saxophonist Tia Fuller is releasing Decisive Steps in mid March.
It is a wonderful album. Tia can play John Coltrane. She proved it on her first album Healing Space in breakthrough. That shrill loud sound of Love Supreme can be heard. Every song on that album was not good. She had a softer still gifted sound on the track Katerina’s Lullaby. That was an amazing song since she is from the mid west and not the south.
Who can wait for spring. I have heard the tracks for the new album. Ten complete gems. She swings more and does not have that hard bop sound. Decisive Steps will be the first track. The sax playing is wonderful and you will feel like you are in the Dirty Dog Jazz club or any club just relaxing. Great sound. She maintains it all the way through the album. Let’s mention track six Steppin. Tia play a great sax and Kim Thompson comes in with medium strength drums that are well done and not overpowering. It is strong harmony. Breakthrough had great piano in the back. Tia wants to emphasize piano on the new album because her sister is playing. It is not there. Shamie Royston on piano does come through on track nine Clear Mind. It is a beautiful mix with both pleasant sax and piano harmonies.
It has been almost three since her first release. It is well worth the wait. In 2009, Tia played for Beyonce Knowles. She just took home six grammy awards. Boney James had the only sax album that was worth having last year with Send one your Love. The right track was not picked and Beyonce is certainly better than Quinn.
Woman generally cannot play saxophone. Tia Fuller can run with the boys. It proud anticipation for the release of Decisive Steps. She was grown as a musician. This should be a Grammy contender. Beyonce stole a few grammy awards. This album is truly good. You do not have to wast time just to buy on song. It is all good and the first flower of spring. Gail’s amazing voice and Tia’s playing make it a delight to be a woman in 2010 because the women are out performing the men!
