Violin vs. Piano

Which is easier to play, which should you play first, background info on both instruments and more.

The violin and piano are both some of the most popular instruments and have been for quite some time. The violin is obviously smaller and you are able to carry it around with you and play at random places which is nice if your into that kind of stuff. The piano is obviously bigger and pretty expensive. You can use a keyboard instead of a piano but it wont truly have the same sound and effect.

The violin requires more maintenance since there are separate parts. You need the violin, a shoulder rest, a bow, rosin and other things sometimes too. all you really need to play a piano/keyboard is a piano/keyboard.

The violin and piano are both just as difficult/easy to play. When reading notes while playing the piano, you need to read two different bars but with the violin you only need to read one. Honestly, if I had to chose which was harder to play, I would say the violin but not by a lot. The reason for this is because the violin requires tuning almost every few days you play it, it takes practice to make a nice sound on it and there are many techniques such as hand and finger positioning, wrist positioning, placing your head and shoulders correctly and using you elbow correctly and much more. On the other hand, the piano never really requires tuning and you will always make a nice sound pressing on the keys.

The violin in my opinion is a lot more fun to play, especially once you learn how to vibrato and make really cool sounds. The piano has its foot pedals which make different sounds, similar to vibrato but A LOT easier.

Most people will recommend that you first learn how to play the piano and then move onto the violin. It will make learning it a lot easier and more fun. You will have more knowledge and that will make it easier.

Have fun playing, Good Luck!
