The Les Paul

This is a short discussion about the Gibson Les Paul.

Is it overrated? underrated?

Just because Slash plays on one is it the best guitar in the world??

My first electric guitar was Yamaha Pacifica. It played well but it didnt have a very solid body and whenever you tried to make the guitar sound distorted there was a horrible ring noise made through the shallow wood. The pickups were O.K. but quite the same so you could flick the switch down 3 times and it would sound the same ( i dont know what the tone switch is actually called! ) It was a good guitar for $700 but not a great guitar overall.

My next electric was a copy of a Gibson SG. it was solid and had a nice sound but because it was a $140 copy it started falling to pieces. I decided to buy an origanal SG with some money i had left in my bank account. I was running out from paying rent, and buying gas, so shortly after i recieved the origanal SG i had to sell it off again. I played it a few times, and it had an amazing sound. The body was very solid, and my favourite guitarist, Angus Young, played the beautiful instrument, so i was proud to have one. The pickups were very strong but bending on the strings it came with was a mission, as i hadnt been playing guitar very long my fingers werent that strong for that stuff. I got lessons at the local music shop, with some one who owned a Starburst Gibson Les Paul. He let me play it for one lesson so i would find it easier to play a song that Slash plays. It was a heavy body., awesome pickups, awesome sound, a totally awesome guitar, well used by guitarists everywhere. But i thought it wasnt very comfortable to play…

The Les Paul is not an over rated guitar, as it is probably one of the best guitars you can buy to bend on and make awesome distorting noises. It also looks like a rich guitar, even though you can buy then for $3,500 NZ

All great guitarists use them, and if its good enough for Slash, its good enough for just about everybody
