Calling all metal heads!
If it’s loud, fast, and heavy sounding, it’s probably metal. Though not for everyone, it’s hard to deny the fact that some of the best musicians were heavy metal, particularly guitarists. It’s hard to list the best in only ten, but I will most definitely try. Here we go.
10. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
What? This guy’s metal?
Some of you may be asking that very question, but if you know anything about music history, you’d know that Led Zeppelin was considered the first heavy metal band. It is impossible to say that Jimmy Page doesn’t deserve this spot.
9. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)
Any true metal head knows who this is, no question.
8. Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)
His use of effects and unconventional style of playing sure influenced me, along with others.
7. Dave Murray and Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden)
I just couldn’t take these guys apart. They’re harmonized solos and double lead riffs caught my ears the moment I heard them.
6. Robert Fripp (King Crimson)
Bands like Opeth and Dream Theater owe their existence to Robert Fripp. His jazz filled riffs and solos, paired with the bands songwriting skills, created so many possibilities for the bands to come.
5. Randy Rhodes
Known by today’s youth as the guitarist for Ozzy, known by yesterday’s youth as the best guitarist ever. It’s a shame to see so many kids who don’t know who this man is, yet seem to know so much about Ozzy.
4. Buckethead
Who knows what this guy is. Whatever he is, his songs are a great work of art.
3. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
These guys are the successors of Dave and Adrian’s title of ‘Greatest Guitar Duo.’ Sure they got a little older, but people, young and old, still love their work. Isn’t that all that matters?
2. Stevie Ray Vaughn
Stevie’s bluesy style of guitar inspired many. What else can I say?
1. Jimi Hendrix
On the top of Rolling Stone’s Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Jimi tops it. He is considered the most influential guitarist of all time, in almost every genre.
Okay, so I know I missed out on so many other amazing guitarists, but there you go. It wasn’t easy, so I’m always open for suggestions. Feel free to comment, bitter or sweet.
