Find out why most players fail to improve their skills and don’t move on.
There are many guitar players that play for years but they feel like that they can’t improve, like they will “newbies” no matter what they will do. I know some guitarists that play for around 1 year and they rock and some guitar players that play for more that 2 years and they know nothing, but just the basics.
What is the main problem? FOUNDATION PROBLEMS. You need to build a nice foundation from the start. Let me give you 3 basic tips to build a great foundation:
Listening.
Train your ears. 99% of the guitar players find this really time consuming and avoid the step BUT it’s really really important to train your ears. How will you move to a higher level without a good listening?
There are some great ways to train your ears. One of the greatest is to download a program that makes you play the guitar and train your ears at the same time. You can google and find many programs but make sure it’s easy and free. There are also paid ones but you don’t get really much more that the free one, except a user friendlier interface.
Practice Daily
Practice at least half an hour a day. And get used to it, don’t be bored to do so. Many guitar players play for hours, but not as concentrated as they should. 30 minutes with full concentration are better than 2 hours with a complicated mind. If you play more and also concentrate the same when hours passing by then you are in the greatest position!
Also, start at pentatonic scales which are the easiest cause they only have 5 tones but they are also really important.
Find a teacher
Private guitar teacher or online lessons. I prefer online lessons cause they are cheaper and more convenient for you since you choose the time you will practice. If you feel that you can spend more money though find a great local teacher and spend some hours with him. Whatever option you choose your skills will improve dramatically.
There are 3 basic foundation tips you can try. I hope this article will help you improve and don’t forget. If you are lazy you won’t improve. Spend some times trying out these tips and I am sure you will get better and better!
