Hello there!
I’m here to help you getting started with the guitar. I play myself too, of course ! I’ve been playing for 1,5 year already. It doesn’t sound as much, but I’m the type who really goes into what I’m doing. When i begin doing something I like in my spare time, I focus a lot on it.
First, you’ll need a guitar……
This can be bought from a lot of places. I bought my first at place where they sold garden stuff. Oh well, anyway…
Second, you’ll need some free lessons. I don’t know how it is to go to a music-school to learn it, cause I learned it myself. I’ve collected some pages for you to start. Read on..
Free lessons:
These are often video lessons which are GREAT to use. Some of these lessons are also just text. That’s also good. Following sites are ALL FREE.
http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitarlessonarchive.htm (Great page for beginners! Check it out as the first)
http://www.learnguitarfree.com/ (1 out of many possible sites to visit to learn some songs)
http://www.guitarplayerworld.com/ (this site is also very great. It learned me a lot in the beginning at least)
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/ (THIS is the greatest page of all! This page lets you know EVERYTHING about the guitar. You can also search the name of your favorite band or song, and learn how to play it!)
http://www.Youtube.com (You might know this page. Lots of videos. Lots of crap. But most important: Lots of useful videos for learning to play the guitar)
Th next page I’ll show you is a site for more advanced players. You might now be good enough yet, but keep this page in mind, cause it’ll come in handy sooner or later. It learns you tricks which makes it easier to understand and play the guitar. However, you’ll need to play a little for it.
The nest page will learn you how to read notes. You don’t have to learn it, but if you want to, it will help you a lot. I lever learned it, and I’m doing fine. I read “tabs” which you can find at http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/ which was mentioned earlier.

AcousticGuitarForum.com is a super great forum to ask for help or get more knowledge. Go check it out!
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com
If you need to find out how to play your favorite song, just search these pages:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/for_beginners/how_to_understand_guitar_tabs.html
That was all guys!
I really hope you’ll learn it, cause it fantastic to play guitar, even when you’re a beginner!
Last tip: It’s supposed to be fun. If it begins to hurt, then you’re doing it right. Remember to take a break once in a while.

When my musician husband passed away he left me several guitars, so at the age of, well, old enough to be your grandmother, I started to learn to play and found, like you, many free web sites that were excellent methods of instruction. Great write.

Great guitar sites might have to give this a try.

To Valerie: That sounds really great! I hope you will enjoy playing guitar. I love it, and can’t live without it. I like that you’re able to play both sad music, happy music, rock music, western music, or blues music. You can create your own style if you want to. That’s what i love about guitar, and don’t like about drums for an example
Thank you very much for taking time to write to me Valerie.

All my sons and grandsons play guitar. I have tried but I think my fingers are too short. I can’t reach all the strings. I love guitar music. Very useful information.

To Ruby: I said the same when I played guitar for the first time. “My fingers are too short!”, but it’s all about practice. It’s hard in the beginning, but you just have to find a way to reach the chords. Start with the easy ones, if you like to:)
i love guitar music too.
By the way, thanks for dropping by and showing your interest!

I would like to share this guitar kid prodigy, his name is Sungha Jung. I’m a big fan of this kid, he makes me smile whenever I watched his videos.
