How to Produce Pinch Harmonics on Your Guitar

Here are three ways to produce really cool harmonics (squealies) on your electric guitars.

A pinch harmonic or an artificial harmonic is a really high pitched sound that you can produce on your guitar.

There are many ways to do this.

  1. You will need a guitar with a whammy. Flick the g string up with your left index finger and immediately TOUCH

it right above the fifth fret (the metal part). When you hear the high pitched sound press on your whammy bar for

variations. This is how to do it The DIMEBAG DARREL way.

  2. Fret one of the middle 2 strings (do not fret higher than the 10th fret). PLay the string and then TOUCH The smae string

12 frets higher with your right hand without letting your left hand off the fret board. so if you fretted the 5th fret

you would touch the 17th fret with your right hand.

  3. Play one of the middle two strings. When your right hand plays the string touch it very briefly but firmly with the

thumb on your right hand. You will get a really cool harmonic. This happens on only a few spots near the pickups and it

varies from guitar to guitar so try finding them on your own.

Hope this helped. Have fun!
