This is an article on how to start becoming a good – decent guitarist. I had my own approach and I’m sharing it with the world who wants to know.
To become a good guitarist, you will need a few things:
You can go to any music store and check out their guitars. I would highly disapprove anything by First Act, sololey because thats the first guitar I had, and it was pure evil. If possible, try to get a good brand like Epiphone or Ibanez or Fender.
When you get your guitar, make sure it is tuned, and either get a guitar book or go online. Personally, I never learned any of the chords or licks, but I was able to read tablature. Tab sites such as www.ultimate-guitar.com is a great place to start.
When beginning, don’t try to learn songs such as Eruption or Free Bird, its a waste of time unless you know how to play. I started playing riffs from Sweet Home Alabama, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Stairway to Heaven.
Look up these 3 songs and learn the intro riffs to all of them. Play them over, and over, and over. Once you are pretty good at playing them, learn the Stairway to Heaven solo. It is alot easier than it sounds and it goes on one of the most basic scales, although I can’t tell you the name of the scale cause I dont know….
Anyways, if you can learn these songs, you should be able to get going by yourself. If you try hard enough and challenge yourself, you can do anything. Today, I know how to play songs like Cliffs of Dover – Eric Johnson, Savior – Rise Against, Fade to Black – Metallica, Cannon Rock – JerryC (look on youtube), and many many more.
This isn’t the most perfect guide to becoming a rock legend, but its a good way to get started.
Here are some helpful links. I did not write any of these other articles.
