It’s just lovely.

It’s rare to find music that completely personifies the person who wrote it. Amber Rubarth is a lovely person. Listening to her music is like getting know her most intimate side. It’s just lovely.

So many things can be faked in music. Talent, originality, vocal ability. One thing that can never be faked is honesty. Honest, genuine lyrics can cut through the soul. Amber’s music does just that.

Good Mystery is Amber’s third full-length album, and it truly shows her most intimate side. While not quite as rooted and powerful as her previous album, New Green Lines, it is a consistent and solid effort. Her lyrics are witty and charming and often self-deprecating, with clever lines like “I’m just trying to call you, to tell you not to call me, but it keeps going straight to the machine.”

Backing music on the album is straightforward, usually just an acoustic guitar or piano, and perfectly compliments her voice and lyrics. She also throws in some miscellaneous percussion and tasteful whistling.

Amber’s voice is soft and sweet, but soulful when it needs to be. It can always match the emotion of the song and never fails to deliver absurdly catchy melodies that you will be singing all day.

It’s certainly no mystery what Amber is trying to say through her music. It’s no mystery that she is a talented songwriter. And it’s no mystery that Good Mystery is a great album. It’s just lovely.
