Sometimes you have trouble learning a particular song, here are some tips to get you through it!

So your stuck, your trying your best, but you just can’t get it. Your fingers won’t stretch far enough, or something like that. Looking at the Tab for the song, it just doesn’t make sense to you! Well here are some effective ways of learning guitar.

1 – Get a TAB

TAB’s are basically a guitarist’s form of a pianist’s sheet music. They tell you which string to play, and at what fret. You can search them up using a search engine, but my personal favorite is www.ultimate-guitar.com. It has lots of tabs, just search in the name and you should find it. TAB’s usually look like this:

e|————————–

B|————————–

G|————————–

D|————————–

A|————————–

E|————————–

Now let me explain this. A lot of people get confused with the “e” and “E” and don’t know which one is which on the guitar. The “e” string is your lowest, thinnest string while the “E” string is your thickest, and highest string. A simple acronym to memorize the string order is “Eddy Ate Dirt, Good Boy Eddy”. Although there are lots more out there, that is the one i use and like best.

So now you know the first step of how to read a TAB, but I did mention that it tells you where to place your fingers, didn’t I? Well thats next, lets take another look at a simple TAB, being played only on the “e” string (Remember, its your lowest and thinnest string):

e|–1—-2—-3—–4—-

So now you see numbers, a simple 1,2,3, and 4. What the numbers represent are the frets, however the fingers you play them with is up to you. If you were to play that TAB, you would simply strum the First fret (-1-) of the “e” string, then the Second fret (-2-) of the “e” string, then the third, and on to the fourth. See? It’s really that simple. Now you know how to read a TAB.
