The wheel turns, or so it would seem in the life of Zak Starkey, who was playing drums on the halftime show at SuperBowl XXXXIIII in Miami Sunday, where New Orleans won .

The drummer for The Who got his first set of drums at the age of eight from Keith Moon, who was the original drummer of The Who, and Zak’s godfather.

By the time Zak was twelve he was drumming in his own band, The Next.  That was in 1977.

Zak has done numerous studio sessions including work for the Spencer Davis Group, and others.

In 1985 Zak and his father Ringo Starr played drums on the song “Sun City”, a song protesting apartheid in South Africa, performed by the group Artists United Against Apartheid, brainchild of Steven Van Zandt, guitar player from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.

Starkey also drummed for the band Oasis, between 2004 and 2008.

Most recently, Zak Starkey toured with The Who on their Australian and New Zealand Tour.
