The early years of the band "Green Day" 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.

The Band was originally from Oakland California. It was started as a 2 man band with Billie Joe And Mike Dirint both as guitarists. Billie Joe met Mike around 10 years old at the school’s cafeteria and they found out that they both had a love for music. They formed their band around the age 15 called “Sweet Children” with drummer John Kiffmeyer. John served as the band’s drummer and band manager. Their first show took place at where Billie’s mom works, Rod’s Hickory Pit in Vallejo, California, during October 17, 1987. During their first few shows Larry Livermore, the owner of Lookout! Records saw their performances and signed them to his label. Later on Larry decided to change the band name, “Sweet Children” because it was getting confusing with another local band called “Sweet Baby.” They changed their band name to Green Day as a result. Later they released 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.
