Keys to Maximizing Your Drum Skills.

There are several ways to increase the quality of your battery and they can all be summarized in these three essential keys …

1. Building Trust

Many aspiring musicians to choose the battery because they are shy and want to remain in the background (where I was when I started behind the drums in 1976).

The truth is, your body may be in the background, but your musical presence will definitely be noticed!

If you are going to be the drummer in a band, then it will be the anchor of the band. Other musicians who are counting on you to provide highlights to keep everything together. All they do behind the kit not only hear but feel, simply because you are the guardian of the most important time.

This idea of wanting to be a drummer so you can hide behind a battery is ridiculous. You’re going to hide from anyone! It is therefore essential to develop confidence in the battery, and the first way is to forget the idea that they are hidden. Your mindset should be to establish its place in the group. Know who you are and why you are there. The rest will fall into place.

Please do not confuse confidence with arrogance. Confidence is what makes a good drummer a great drummer. Arrogance is what makes a good drummer drum solo! I do not know about you, but I certainly do not want to play music with pretentious jerk who believes he or she is better than everyone.

The second love of your instrument

If a player really wants to master their instrument they must absolutely love. What I mean “is the love?” The best way to understand this is to connect your battery to love to love a person.

Many people think that “love” is a feeling, but does not know. For example, I love my wife, but I do not like (I think that might be able to say the same about me).

Love is an action word. That means love, care, learn, create, be true to, to engage in, conduct, support, protect and promote. When you do these things comes the feeling of love automatically.

So how can you tell if you really like the battery? You can tell if you love your drums by the priority put on them. They should have a priority in your life or your battery is just a little hobby that is mediocre.

Be Humble third

To succeed in anything, you must have confidence in what you do, and knowledge can be trusted. But, attention, knowledge can also have a better opinion of you than you should.

If you really want to increase your battery level is essential to always be a student and keep an open mind.

The mind is like a parachute, it only works when opened. That’s why it’s so important to stay humble. Arrogant drummers never grow beyond the current repeated, because I do not think it will not be able to learn. What a fool! There is always something to learn … and the advanced drummer can learn from the medium-term, or even a beginner!

It ‘important to want to learn if you are going to increase the battery level, and remaining humble is the only way through which you can do this.

If we keep learning, you will be able to teach. When you start teaching, you will be amazed at the extra things to learn (if you are currently teaching, that is).
