I have done a comprehensive research on the cost & benefit of the option. The list below is the conclusion.
1) The cost is about the same whether you signed up for the service separately elsewhere or you bought the option with the insurance.
2) In certain cases, the cost of the policy went up after the policy holder making several roadside assistance claims. So it is just like the auto insurance coverage, if you make too many claims your rates will rise for the next year.
3) It is not so convenient. Many policy holders claimed that they were not happy when making a claim. Many car insurance companies will tell you to pay for the roadside service you receive first, then claim for the reimbursement later. This is much less convenient compare to an auto club that covers all costs.
In summary, it is not worth it to buy the roadside assistance option together with the new auto insurance policy and you will be better of by getting the coverage separately from the service provider elsewhere such as AAA, CostCo, etc.
