The Jaguar XJ Sentinel has been presented last week in an international car show in Moscow. Let’s see what are the new features on offer.

Nowadays security plays a very important role in our societies. The Indian-owned but British based car-maker Jaguar is taking it very seriously, introducing a new automobile for the security conscious individuals: the Jaguar XJ Sentinel. The XJ Sentinel offers B7-level ballistic protection as well as defence against 15 Kg. TNT or equivalent explosive. From the outside, the Sentinel shows no signs of the armour plating beneath (integrated inner-shell constructed from Kevlar and special high-strength steel). The car is also grenade proof and for those who believe perhaps to shoot the tyres to stop the vehicle there will be only frustration; in fact, the automobile will work fine even with flat tyres. The driver and passengers don’t need to wind down the bullet proof windows because an intercom will give them access to communicate with the outside world. The 3.3 tonne saloon’s safety features have been rigorously tested by the Jaguar engineering team at Castle Bromwich assembly plant in Birmingham (UK). The XJ Sentinel employes the 5.0 litre V8 already found in the Supersport, which gets the started car from rest to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and onto a limited top speed of 155 mph. Obviously the weight will slow down the Sentinel which will be be able to cover the same distance in 9.2 seconds. Clients who are security minded will definitely allow that lost speed for the sake of their security (I believe). The Sentinel’s doors require a bit of extra effort to be opened; however they can be opened by the cap-wearing driver.

Jaguar is targeting the sales of this car in several countries such as, Russia, UK, Europe, China and the Middle East. There are of course, luxury leather seats and wood veneer panelling. The Sentinel’s doors will lock automatically as soon as you whizz off and also if you are in a cold country you can opt for a very comfortable winter mode (the transmission selects second gear to provide greater safety on an icy road). The XJ Sentinel is the ultimate armoured luxury limousine and Jaguar has already several orders. Money is not an issue in this case. Sky news reports that the value of the car is under half million British Sterling. Perhaps I will have to wait for the next James Bond’s film to see one of them around.
