…he shall be missed, though he’s left behind his voice…
This seems to be a year of great loss for the Indian creative industry. It seems to be losing one stalwart after another. Today, India mourns the death of Jagjit Singh – one of our THE BEST Ghazal singers.
He passed away this morning in the ICU of Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital this morning after reportedly being admitted due to brain hemorrhage.

Best known for his Ghazals, this versatile singer had sang memorable songs in movies like Arth, Dushman, the tele-serial Mirza Ghalib and of recent Sarfarosh. The song “Hoshwalon ko khabar kya” from the movie Sarfarosh, stands out to be one of my favorite songs of all time.
He is survived by his wife Chitra Singh, who is also a famed ghazal singer and they have both recorded and released musical albums together.
In a career that spanned over five decades he has released many solo music albums, duet albums with his wife Chitra and has also lent his voice to songs in movies of various regional languages. He was also known for his live performances all over India and the world. He has won immense laurels from his concert tours in Asia and other continents.
May his soul rest in peace and his legend live, Amen!
