Top 10 Bands of All Time

Posted in: Rock by Matt H on December 18th, 2008 | 11 Comments

I think these are the top ten of all time.

1. Led Zeppelin

If you haven’t heard Dazed and Confused, Kashmir, Good Times Bad Times, Communication Breakdown, and D’yer Maker, you haven’t lived. This is by far the best band of all time.

2. Queen

Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, and Under Pressure are three of the greatest hits of all time. There is no denying the god-like musicianship of Queen and Freddie Mercury.

3. The Beatles

Let It Be, Hey Jude, Nowhere Man, and All You Need Is Love are amazing songs. Many have fallen in love to the music of The Beatles. The Beatles not only made incredible music; they also left a lasting impression on the world of rock and roll.

4. Aerosmith

There are two big hits here: Dream On and Janie’s Got A Gun. Incredible riffs and lyrics that will be remembered for decades.

5. Dragonforce

Much of their music was popularized through Guitar Hero, but their songs are nevertheless very impressive. Highly technical compositions are a trademark of this legendary group. Hits include Through The Fire And The Flames and Revolution Deathsquad.

6. The Strokes

Before you die, you must hear You Only Live Once, Reptilia, 12:51, and Someday. These songs are highly emotional and reminiscent of memorable times.

7. Allman Brothers

A very talented group that will be remembered for their incredible impact on an entire generation. One of their best songs is Jessica.

8. Weezer

Buddy Holly, Holiday, Troublemaker, The Greatest Man That Ever Lived, Automatic, El Scorcho, and Pink Triangle are amazing songs that are stick-in-your-mind tunes. Although many of their songs sound similar, they have a revolutionary tone quality. Led by master lyricist Rivers Cuomo.

9. Nirvana

Popularized by In Bloom and Smells Like Teen Spirit; very well-known in teen circles for their heavy guitar sounds and their loud nature.

10. The Doors

Very well known for Light My Fire, Riders On The Storm, Love Me Two Times, and Break On Through. A revolutionary force in rock in rock in the ’70s. Jim Morrison was both a well-accomplished musician and poet.

Great list, Matt. I saw The Beatles live at the old Cardinal stadium in St. Louis, MO. It was the summer of ‘66 or’67; also there was Bobby Hebb who made the song, Sunny and The Cyrcle who made Red Rubber Ball. I don’t know if anyone remembers any of those outside of The Beatles; they were all great.

    neat list. thanks for sharing.

if it were my list i would have to place nirvana at #1 and the doors at #2.

i would remove the beatles and allman brothers. i know, i know they are and were very popular but i simply dont care for any of their stuff. i would remove queen because Bohemian Rhapsody gets on my last nerve, and lastly i would remove dragonforce. i cant recall who they are.

i would place nine inch nails, clutch, serj tankian and les claypool on my list.

hope you have a good day!
