The Killers Vs. The Bravery

How does each band’s second album stand up? And which is better?

Last year The Bravery and The Killers battled it out for Indy supremacy. The only two songs anyone ever heard on the radio (does anyone listen to the radio anymore?) were Honest Mistake and Somebody Told Me. Over and over… and over again.

So, the follow-ups had to be bad ass. Now that both bands have thrown their hats in, the winner is… The Bravery, with The Sun and the Moon.

Sure, it took them a few more months, but the result is an album that actually holds together. The Killers-not so much. When You Were Young is a strong single out of the gates, but the complete Sam’s Town effort sputters and dies about half way through. I’m still holding out for a third album from the Killers, though. The lifecycle usually goes something like this:

Newcomers make kick-ass 1st album, reach huge fame, loose perspective, 2nd album suckfest, new a**hole ripped by critics for half-assed bulls**t, mansion foreclosure, anonymity looms, band “gets inspired” again, produces good 3rd album.

We’ll see. In the meantime, take a listen to both albums and judge for yourself.
