Please Don’t Fight These Hands That are Holding You

Tenth Avenue North’s hit song seizes our hearts with the message that Love is by our side.

My favorite song these days is entitled “By Your Side.”  The song is meaningful to me because it comforts my heart.  On any given day, my heart strays from hope to fear, certainty to questioning, love to disgust.

The lyrics in “By Your Side” from the band Tenth Avenue North remind me that I am dearly loved and that I am not alone.

“Cause I’ll be by your side, whenever you fall,

in the dead of night, whenever you call,

please don’t fight these hands that are holding you,

my hands are holding you.”

Listen to “By Your Side” from Tenth Avenue North’s myspace page.

If your heart is not comforted by that song, then you are either so full of love that you are supersaturated or so full of hate that you can’t feel a thing.

The former is improbable.  The latter is more likely.  Comfort is available for those who want it.

Tenth Avenue North is a young band with a godly message.  You are not alone.  Love is here.  Open your heart and accept it.

I don’t want to fight the hands that are holding me.  Those hands are strong hands, loving hands, hands of mercy and grace.  Like a child in a tantrum who gives in to his father’s strong embrace, I stop fighting the love that changes my life for eternity.

I have heard these songs on Christian radio, but had not seen the band in interview before. They are wise young men! Thanks for posting this.

Um… I guess I must be full of hate or something. Not my sort of thing at all, I don’t mind down-tempo emotional pieces, but these guys are just too sentimental for me, and I really don’t like the singer’s voice, I find it depessing. Still, your passion for their music really shows through, this is a well written and thoughtful article.

I have never heard of them but I admit I love their voice. They have this sort-of rock-bluesy sort of vibe. I love the gospel take coming from such young lads. I am a loyal fan to gospel music.

Very nice write, Brian. God bless.

I’m glad you all are encouraged either by the music or the writing :-) I’m not suggesting that everyone should like the song or the style of the song. I am suggesting that the message of the song should be a comfort of some kind to each and every one of you.

Couldn’t listen to the song because the computer I’m using doesn’t let me. However, I know what you’re talking about without having heard the song. There are many songs that have touched me like this, one that always touched me even before my daughter’s diagnoses was Rascall Flatt’s “Sarabeth” Now it makes me cry double every time I hear it.

I heard the song, “By Your Side” for the first time yesterday on the radio. It’s one of those songs that you only have to hear once to know that you love it. So I was searching (because I didn’t know the song title or artist) and I found your article.
I feel the same way you do in the opening paragraph , straying
“from hope to fear…” and this song went straight into my soul!

thank you for promoting a band that had a good message. more than a good message, its actually godly. a shame that it is a style of music doesnt fit my personality.

I am already working on this song so I can play it at my church sunday morning. I love the vocals in this song!
I like all there songs but this one in particular is awesome.

Every time I hear these songs…the tears flow, my heart cracks, and my soul & spirit grow larger to make more room for Him. Your songs have so much healing in them. Thanks, guys, for being His voice and His music on the airways.
