Love Reign O’er Me — Four Versions of This Beautiful Song

Could "Love Reign O’er Me" by The Who be the most beautiful rock song of all time? Maybe, maybe not, but it sure has been covered enough times by other musicians.

The song “Love Reign O’er Me” was originally released in 1973 by the rock band The Who on the album Quadrophenia. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful rock and/or pop songs ever written. For your viewing and listening pleasure, below are links to four videos of this classic song as performed by different music artists over the years.

Heart

Yes, Ann and Nancy Wilson along with their backing band performed this great song live for a Heart concert in 2007.

Pearl Jam

After the original version of this song by The Who, the version by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is probably the next best known modern version of the song. A studio version from Pearl Jam was originally released in 2007 for the movie “Reign Over Me,” but this video is from a 2011 concert.

Bettye Lavette

This is my personal favorite version of this song. I love it even more than the original (but only a little). Classic singer Bettye Lavette performed “Love Reign O’er Me” live in 2008 for the Kennedy Center Honors of The Who.

The Who

Of course I had to include the original band performing this song. Here The Who plays at a 1996 concert in London with David Gilmour.
