Led Zeppelin is the greatest hard rock band ever, whose influence is undeniable. The live concert footage featured in their DVD sets are phenomenal.
I started listening to Led Zeppelin when I was about eleven years old. Since then I have purchased nearly every album they have produced and have listened to them countless times, but it is the live concert footage that I have found and purchased that I love the most.
It all started when I purchased “How the West was Won,” a three CD set of live Zeppelin from the 70’s. I was in awe of Jimmy Page’s rant on Stairway to Heaven that lasted over four minutes and found myself going back to listen to it over and over again. Finally, I found was I was looking for…two sets of DVDs with live concert footage.
The first is “The Song Remains the Same,” a movie centered around their concert at Madison Square garden in 1973; incredible. But the one that I’m most pleased with and most excited about it a two DVD set of their concerts, ranging from 1973 all the way up until 1979, a year before John Bonham’s untimely and unfortunate death.
These are two must haves for any Led Zeppelin fan. I cannot adequately describe with words just how phenomenal these DVDs are to watch. You just sit there mesmerized by the display that Zeppelin puts on. It’s easy to sit back and watch it for hours upon hours and then to start it all over again, amazed at how good they are.
I know that I’m not doing these DVDs justice or Led Zeppelin. They are something that you have to see for yourself. Watching Jimmy Page on his double Stratocaster during Stairway to Heaven and watching Bonzo going nuts on Moby Dick, is truly something to behold.
I would like to leave you something else to think about. I was on Amazon the other night and ran across the complete studio recordings. It contains ten discs and lots of other very cool items. It’s not that expensive either, so I think it will be a birthday gift to myself, considering that it will be the only thing I get anyway, so it might as well be something good.
