A rant about punk rock.
I’ve never blogged before because I am an Old Geezer! I can’t imagine that anyone would have interest in what I might have to say…
Not that I have nothing to say! It’s just that my insecurity stands eye to eye with my conceit, so while I believe that what I might have to say is worth a read, I just can’t imagine who would want to read it!
Typical example! While I was in the middle of that sentence, I got a phone call from Playboy magazine, offering me a renewal on the subscription I purchased a year ago. Sure! The rate was incredibly low… But – truth to tell- every month that I would get my copy of that magazine, I would look at those women in it and feel like a damn pedophile! I’m 51 years old, and those ‘women’ hovered barely above the age of consent! I would look at them and could only wonder to myself – I wonder what their moms look like!!!
And, believe it or not- that to me is a punk attitude! I don’t need to impress anyone by pretending that I want something I don’t want. I survived my own twenties, and have no interest in nursing anyone else through that same sort of confusing time, no matter how good they look! At the risk of sounding horribly crude and superficial, I find nothing attractive about the clean-shaven genitalia of the women that populate the pages of that magazine! I’m such a hardcore punk that I want my women hairy and flawed! I want them to think that sex is something that should be a little bit taboo, and not something that should be the topic of some damn fool music video!I want then to make me work for it, and feel like I have discovered some sort of Holy Grail when I get it!
Yeah… I’m a Geezer!
But this is about punk rock, isn’t it?
If you were there, well, then…
If you were there, I can recommend some DVDs to check out… Find ‘Lords of The New Church – Live In London’. You will see Stiv Bators and Brian James on stage together. Find any of the Johnny Thunders concert DVDs out there. I think I have them all, and none of them are a waste of money. Don’t bother the newest Sex Pistols ‘reunion’ DVD – it’s a crashing bore! By all means, pick up the ‘Classic Album’ DVD about ‘Never Mind The Bollocks’, and the Sex Pistols Live at the Longhorn in Texas. Find the Damned reunion DVD, and the live one of the Stranglers. None of the Clash DVDs are worth a second viewing, but the ‘Complete Jam’ set isn’t that bad. “The Filth and the Fury’ is interesting, and the PuNk Attitude film is worth a look. The Dead Boys at CBGBs is a hoot, but the Return of the Living Dead Boys DVD is only worth historical value.
Enough for tonight?
I don’t know yet how this website works… this is my first entry… but I hope I can rattle and prattle on in the future and jst maybe somebody will take an interest!
We shall see.
