While many bands fall into these categories only a few can be names one of the best.

Rise Against

With multiple successes like Prayer of the Refugee, Re-Education (Through Labor), The Good Left Undone, Elective Amnesia and many more this Chicago band formed in 1999 is much more than just another band singing about pain and loss and love.  My personal favorite, this band’s songs address multiple social issues and other controversies.  Their current line up consists of lead singer Tim McIlrath who along with Zach Blair and Joe Principe play guitar.  Joe Principe also plays the bass and Brandon Barnes is the drummer.  Some of their most recent successes include Siren Song of the Counter Culture, The Sufferer and the Witness, Appeal to Reason and This is Noise.

blink-182

One of the most popular punk rock bands, this band was formed in 1992 in California.  Some of thier many hits include the albums Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, Enema of the State, Take of Your Pants and Jacket (try and find the hidden joke) and Blink-182 in which they redifined themselves with songs such as I Miss You.  Before they broke apart, this band consisted of lead singer Tom DeLonge, who’s vocals became what people most reconognized this band for.  He also played guitar, with Mark Hoppus playing bass and doing the lower vocals and Travis Barker playing drums.  After the breakup DeLonge announced his part in the band Angels & Airwaves and Barker and Hoppus started +44.

Breaking Benjamin

Formed in 1998 this Alternative Metal band from Pennsylvania is one of the best around.  With songs like The Diary of Jane, So Cold, Dance With the Devil and many others, they have had a great impact on the genre.  They have put out 3 records of their 5 record deal with Hollywood Records, these records are: Saturate, We Are Not Alone, Phobia and the EP So Cold.  Benjamin Burnley is the lead singer and also plays guitar along with Aaron Fink, Mark Klepaski doing bass and Chad Szeliga plays the drums and does percussion.  They 4th album is under production.

Story of the Year

This band formed in 1995 has had many reckognizable songs, albums and singles.  Page Avenue, In the Wake of Determination, and The Black Swan are their three albums along with many great singles like Sidewalks and Until the Day I Die and a few EPs.  Originally called the Big Blue Monkies, but upon discovering a blues band of the same name already existed they changed it to Story of the Year.  Lead singer Dan Marsala is joined on the vocals by guitarist Philip Sneed, bass player Adam Russell with Ryan Philips playing guitar and John Wills on the drums.
