Chad Smith – The Drummer

Chad Smith, the famous drummer of the band, Red Hot Cilli Pepper, is a celebrity. His ingenuity of his style has made him unique.

Smith was born on the 25th, October, 1961, to Curtis and Joan Smith in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in Bloomfield Hill, a suburb in Detroit, Michigan.

His love for drumming started from his chidhood. Before joining Red Hot Chilli Peppers Smith played for a local Detroit band called Toby Redd. The first band that he joined, was called’ Pharaoh ‘. Smith was only a fifteen year old teenager at that time.

Chad Smith joined ‘Red Hot Chilli Pepper’, when they were going to float their album called ‘Mother’s Milk’.

In 1991, Smith had a small role in the short film section ‘Man’, which won the Academy Award for the best short film.

Smith was married to Maria St. John, in 1994. They had a daughter, later they divorced. In 2004 Smith married Nancy Mack, and they have two sons.

When he is not playing his drums in his studio or stage, Smith loves riding his Harleys. He owns a Black Road King. Smith is also fond of watching Detroit Red Wings, Golf, baseball, and basketball matches.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers Band with its Vocalist – Anthony Kiedis, Guitarist- John Frusiante, Bassist- Michael ‘Flea’ Balzary, and Drummer – Chad Smith took the world by storm, with their album ‘Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik’. More than thirteen million copies were sold.

The bands varied style, has fused traditional rock and funk with various strains of punk rock and psychedelic rock.

Chad Smith’s drumming style is very catchy and technical, despite his lack of formal education. His music wraps up a listener into its beats, leaving them wanting for more.His technical beats have simplistic sounds, that is very skilful. He has had sessions with many bands, other than Chilli Pepper like the Dixie Chicks, Glen Hughes, Johny Cash, Dave Navaro, Howard Stern and Queen Remix. Chad Smith specializes in Funk rock music playing a Pearl Drum set. Chad has made a few signature percussion pieces. This includes a Chad Smith Signature snare and Chad Smith Explosion crash Cymbals.

Chad Smith is currently involved in a super group side project called ‘Chickenfoot’, with former Van Halen members Sammy Hagarand, Michael Anthony as well as guitarist Joe Satriam. He is also in a band called ‘Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbeats’.

In May 2006 issue, of Doel Ford magazine, Smith was named the number one living rock drummer. In 2009, the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers will become eligible ,for induction into the ’Rock and Roll, Hall of Fame’.

 The band is in hiatus now, but hopefully will resume playing, to give the world good music
