A touch of punk.
To start with, if you don’t like punk music, click off of this now. Nothing here that is going to even remotely amuse you.
There are over twenty songs here, all with one common thread; they are punk songs. You’ll find stuff going back to the beginning of the movement in the 70’s… 80’s skater punk…. hardcore, and some just plain off the wall shit. But through them all, there is a greater theme… these are great punk songs, by some of the musical revolutionaries who have and are continuing to create a musical mindset.
Yhere is no order or reason other than that. This isn’t supposed to be a ‘best of’ list; no need to tell me that I forgot so and so. There are a lot of great bands not here. But there are a bunch who are. Consider it a compilation put together for you.
Rise Against Give It All
Not only a great song musically, but powerful lyrically.
Fugazi Waiting Room
Fugazi is one of those bands that has always been under the radar, but they are legends.
Husker Du Something I Learn Today
Husker Du somehow managed to get themselves lumped in with the ‘grunge’ scene, which is sad.
Goldfinger Wake Up
Many great punk songs are like this…simple, a bit cheesy, but poignant.
Millencolin Man Or Mouse
One of the 90’s bands that never really built a huge following but should have.
Leftover Crack Gang Control
Kind of an oddball group; they bounced between ska and hardcore and a kind of rap rock thing in an erratic fashion that really made them ahead of their time.
The Damned Smash It Up
The Offspring revitalized this song, but the original just has that feel to it.
Operation Ivy Oi Skinhead
Most people don’t realize that skinheads originally had nothing at all to do with racism; just the opposite.
The Adolescents Lockdown America
One of the bands that incorporated amazing harmoies into punk.
Social Distortion Reach For The Sky
Gave punk music a taste of blues.
Turbonegro All My Friends Are Dead
One of the oddest groups to ever take the stage. They’re part A Clockwork Orange, part Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The Adicts Bad Boy
In case you were wondering, this band had a huge influence on Heath Ledger’s Joker.
The Dead Boys Ain’t it Fun
Utterly unlike the rest of the original wave of British punk.
Descendents Coffee Mug
Nerd icons. Ever heard such awe and power thrown into 30 seconds?
Ramones 53rd and 3rd
The kings, in an amazing performance with Rancid.
Pennywise My God
Hard to pick a Pennywise song, but this one seems appropriate for recent events.
Offspring All I Want
People sometimes forget what an amazing band the Offspring truly is.
A.F.I. Totalimmortal
Ok, so they’ve gone all emo on us. This was a brilliant punk song that oozed 80’s misfits.
NOFX Don’t Call Me White
Punk music’s sense of sarcasm.
Vandals Oi To The World
Another of the 80’s bands that everyone has forgotten who influenced everyone.
Dropkick Murphys Johnnie I Hardly Knew Ye
All of the Celtic punk bands owe it to the Murphys… every Irish American should own one of their CDs.
Bad Religion 10 in 2010
And we end with the Godfathers.
Hopefully this has opened some doors, and reopened some others for you. Music as it was meant to be.

No Future.
Just a big ole “Hell Yeah” to ya Mo.
Dropkick Murphy’s are all over my playlist on Rhapsody. Especially “Kiss Me I’m Shitfaced” and, of all things, “Amazing Grace”
Thanks for putting this out there dude.

My little brother and I are into what’s called an industrial punk rock band. He’s totally obsessed ( I just like the music)! He has t-shirts, jackets…you name it, he has it. Talk about music worship!

Yay for the Damned and the Ramones! But where’s the Clash, the Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, X Ray Spex and the Slits? I’m not really into newer punk, especially newer american punk, it just doesn’t speak to me, it became too much of a stock thing without enough variation for my liking. Earlier punk had so much crazy stuff going on, you had singers with strange voices and musicians with anything from a guitar and two chords to virtuoso saxophone skills: it was more than just angry kids playing stupidly fast, it was art.

The Ramones are my all time favorite band.

I agree with Emma, early punk was more real, more gutsy.
