Lee Scratch Perry- The Upsetter

Lee “Scratch” Perry is a legend in music.

Born in Kendal, Jamaica, “Scratch” Perry is an internationally known dub producer and reggae artiste. He is also recognized as a performance artist.

Lee “Scratch” Perry has produced reggae and dub music of some of the best reggae artistes, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Max Romeo and The Heptones. In more recent times, he has also produced dubstep music, which is a type of electronic dance music.

From 1970 to 1971, Lee Perry and Bob Marley produced a number of outstanding reggae songs together, including:

Mr.Brown

Sun is Shining

Fussing and Fighting

Small Axe

Duppy Conqueror

Lively Up Yourself

Trench Town Rock

These songs are included on the album, Bob Marley & Lee “Scratch” Perry-The Best of the Upsetter Years 1970-1971, which is highly recommended by reggae fans.

Upsetter is one of Lee Perry’s pseudonyms.

“Scratch” Perry worked with other well-known producers of dub music and reggae music, including the legendary Sir Coxsone Dodd, from Studio One and Joe Gibbs, of Amalgamated Records.

In 2003, “Scratch” Perry was the recipient of the Grammy award for best Reggae Album. That was for the reggae album, Jamaican E.T.“Scratch” Perry has received several awards for his work in music.
