Britney Spears’ Piece of Me: Song Review

They say music is the universal language, so what better way to express your feelings than with music? Britney Spears certainly has done that without holding back on her latest single off the “Blackout” album, “Piece of Me.” I personally love this song, with its mellow sound and catchy, smart-alec lyrics you don’t have to be a genius to figure that the song is dedicated to the paparazzi and the media that has candidly displayed her toughest moments to the world without a smidge of remorse. I love how the song almost mocks how the media portrays her, a lot of the times overexaggerated and other times, not so much. Ahhhhh the joys of being famous!

This song, however, is no surprise to the people who have religiously followed the tabloids or watched the latest gossip stories on the artist. We had to have known a song like this would be in the making. Britney always said she wanted to be the next Madonna, the Queen of controversy herself, with that in mind I think it’s safe to say she has fully succeeded. As for Britney’s fans, what affect does “Piece of Me” have on them? Well, to be honest, I don’t think there is much of an affect on them nor do I think the song was meant to have an affect on them. I could say it might make them realize that Britney isn’t perfect and that she’s human and makes mistakes but was it really the song that did that or just plain old common sense?

I think the song is more for Britney’s sake, getting satisfaction from taking a shot at the paparazzi and all the other critics that claim they have her figured out. The most her fans can do is just sing along and dance to it, which I have to admit, I’m guilty of. After all, it isn’t the first time Britney has come out with a paparazzi/media influenced song about her dramatic life. The remake of the classic “My Prerogative” comes to my mind. The bottom line is that Britney’s loyal fans seem to love her no matter what she does or doesn’t do for that matter. As long as she keeps dishing out the catchy tunes, she will always have a decent fan base. Will “Piece of Me” change the way the media treats her or make people love or hate her any more or less? Not very likely. But at least she got some stuff off her chest right?
