Top Five Heavy Metal Albums of 2011 Closing List

This is a list of five great heavy metal albums to close out my constantly updated overview of last year.

5. Absu – Abzu: This is a fast paced album that recalls Melechesh, but has a slightly rougher exterior than what is shown by that band.  It’s a black metal album in nature, but has elements that nimble drumming that give it other characteristics as well.

4. Hammers of Misfortune – 17th Street:  This is a metal album that almost recalls rock operas by the likes of bands like Queen.  It has great production and a big emphasis on vocals much like other albums by this band and Slough Feg.

3. The Devil’s Blood – The Thousandfold Epicentre:  This is an old-school rock album that recalls greats of the past, but within a subdued mindset that is also hypnotic at the same time.  Smooth female vocals round out this album.

2. Nightrage – Insidious:  This is another great melodic-death metal albums in the flavour of Omnium Gatherum and Insomnium who also released stellar material in 2011.  It has an aggressive feel of the old material that At the Gates brought to us while remaining catchy at the same time.

1. Glorior Belli – The Great Southern Darkness:  This is a dirty blend of blues, Southern metal and Deathspell Omega type sounds into a concoction that is fun to listen to and enraptures with its dissonance.

It will be helpful if you can find samples of the type of music you are listing when you write articles like this. That way a reader can click on the link and know exactly what you are describing. Try it out on your next article, cause i know I’d love to hear any album that is reminiscent of Queen.
