Jazz: Mboya Nicholson Swings About New Orleans on Debut CD

“Two Griots from the Easy” from Mboya Nicholson’s debut CD.

Here is another song from my self titled debut CD. This song “Two Griots from the Easy” is dedicated to educators and musicians Harold Battiste and Ellis Marsalisprofessors at the University of New Orleans. New Orleans was a great place to study music. And it is a great place to research culture, whether in literary form, visual arts or any performing art discipline. And then there is the food. I tried to capture all of that in the song, from the po’boy sandwiches to the echoes of history on North Claiborne Avenue; from the music of Frenchmen Street to the moon shining high over Lake Pontchartrain on a summer night.  As they say in the Crescent City, “Yes indeed”.
