Here’s the story about Billie Holiday. I have written about the time she were raped by a man named Mr. Dick. I hope your knowledge about Billie Holiday( born Eleanora Fagan) will grow while reading my article.
Billie Holiday was a very famous jazz singer back in the 50’s. She was born April 7th year1915 in Baltimore and died year 1959. Billie was a black girl who lived with her mother as her only parent most of her childhood. Billie had a very rough and difficult childhood. However, it taught her both to take care of herself and to be strong against people who were going against her. Billie had to go and wash doorsteps and clean white peoples houses tog earn money in a very early age. Billie lived with her mother and father once. But that was only in the first years of her life. The dad left Billie (born Eleanora Fagan) and her mother to travel to different places with his band. What I want to tell you, is a very unfair and unpleasant time in Billie’s life. I want to tell you what happened when Billie got sent to a Catholic Institution in the early age of ten.
One day, Billie was on her way home from school. Billie knew that her mother was at the hairdresser, and that she wouldn’t be home when Billie was done with school. But someone was inside the house when Billie came home. One of their neighbors named Mr. Dick. He was in his forties by that time. He told Billie that her mother had asked him to follow her to another house some blocks away. He also told Billie that her mother would meet her there, after she’d been at the hairdresser.

Once Billie got to the house she met a woman who opened the door for her. They walked inside and Billie asked for her mother. She was told that she was late and that she just had to wait for her where she was. Billie waited and waited but nothing happened. It was getting late and Billie got tired of waiting and fell asleep. When Mr. Dick saw her dozing he took her to the bedroom to let her think that she was going to sleep. Billie was almost asleep when he tried to rape her. She kicked and screamed but it didn’t help. The woman of the house came and tried to hold her head and arms down but Billie still kicked and screamed. Mr. Dick got what he wanted but then suddenly the door was broken and a police man and Billie’s mother came to save her.
