Discogkahvi 018 – Jean Nine – Cramshafter

This chaotic tune hearkens to the Demoscene.

Welcome, dear readers, to the eighteenth edition of my reviews of Kahvi Collective releases. Kahvi Collective is a netlabel that specializes in Ambient and IDM music.

Jean Nine’s sophomore track on Kahvi Collective is bit more sophisticated than his first release, but no less frenetic and fun. Kahvi’s site cites (<3 Homophones): “Jean 9 meets nintendo entertainment system meets fm radio talkshows – our man in the 8_bit_universe”. I couldn’t find it on YouTube, but you can download the track here.

The track opens with flatulent electronic noise, some vocal sample (I’m not sure if it’s even in english). A breakbeat ensues, with a more faint vocal sampling. A simple, almost 8-bit lead starts. This track has a fun, fast quality to it, like Jean Nine’s other upload. 1:34 sees a change in the lead, almost danceable. This continues until 2:30, where the beat quits for more dissonant vocals, and a strangely speed up voice. The beat and synth return at 2:55, if but for a minute, as the track closes at 3:52.
