Discogkahvi 042.3 – 4T Thieves – Tidal Blues V2

Greetings, dear readers. I’ve been meaning to get around to another set of Discogkahvi articles, and lo and behold, here’s the next in the series, number 042, covering Kahvi release 042. I’m sure there’ll be a “greatest hits” release at some point, so those numbers may unsync at some point. Anyway, release 042 is the most outstanding “The Beginning EP”, authored by the helmsman of Kahvi Collective himself, 4T Thieves. Kahvi Collective describes it as “4t thieves is back with an ep in his usual style. a journey from chilled beats into dance, moving onto ambience and then finishing with a large and fast finish. all the tracks are previously unreleased apart from tidal blues, which is an extended version of an earlier hellven.org release. I think theres something for everybody in this massive release….” on the download page, and I agree with this, very much. Eclectic music all around.
“Tidal Blues V2″ has some unmitigated cool going on here. Lore says that this is a retread of an old Amiga version originally penned by the boss of Kahvi.
Coarse, mechanical ambience gives way to repeated sonar ping-blurp things. Some strange gurgling melodies. The feel is tense, like predator & prey hide-and-seeking in a grotto. Or a tidal barrage. A repeated, almost ticking sample drives this to your fish-brain. Descending sounds surge overhead like great tsunamis, ignorant of all of this play for all of their idiot-power. A mean beat at two oh seven. Progression on this element over a minute. There is almost a spy-flick theme to this. I hope your submarine car is cooler than a Lotus. Dissonant sound pads devolve back to the old gurgling, growing silent for second, not until a big-sounding pickup. Boss battle themes in the final minutes, cascading sounds falling like adds before a righteous raid, falling not unlike the boss, the song, falls itself.
