Country Strong Movie…. From a Country Music Lover’s View

It may be a simple "Chick Flick" movie as all other else would say. For me, it has ignited something. Thus, this little thought came from.

At first, I never thought that the story deserved a tragedy thinking that the conflict wasn’t built in a way that focused the main character -Kelly. But looking at it closely, I just realized that even at the first part, the conflict was already known and the lyrics with the songs sang by Chiles were a reflection to Kelly. The songs themselves sang in the movie narrated the story and the conflict.

It may be a bit scattered because there was an element of romance developed by this young singer Chiles and Kelly’s special friend Beau. With this, the audience may expect more story about this young couple fall in love but still the story went back to its main focus- Kelly and her depressing life. Her wanting to become a mom, wanting to go back to her simple life with her love – James who became cold to her.

The movie showed how fame can destroy life. James’ ambition shows materialism by not wanting to go back to their old life, him as an insurance agent  At a point in the movie he said: “Me go back as an insurance rep and you as a church singer and become miserable?” Not realizing how he is making their lives miserable by trying to get more. Kelly has always mentioned wanting to go home, to be a mom and wife. Home signifies real Love.

Though the movie wasn’t able to escape from the predictable love story theme, still it presented not just romance but something more- Home, where the heart is.
